About 2/3 of the anodes produced in the Smelter are sent to the Refinery. The electrolysis process produces cathodes with a copper concentration of 99.99 %.
The Refinery functions according to the latest technology in ISA 2000 (Australia) with fully automated equipment from Outotec (Finland) and a Kuenz crane system (Austria).
The location of the machines in the refinery is in the direction south-north, as the anodes come in from the south and the cathodes go out from the north where they are arranged on the ground for storage and transport. The process is managed and controlled by the automatic management system DCS 7 designed and implemented by Siemens.
The project for construction of the newest refinery in 2008 cost € 82 million and was announced as the largest industrial investment in the country for that period.
