A National Exhibition for the Relations between European and Bulgarian Modernism was opened in Sofia

Aurubis Bulgaria is the main partner of the project, dedicated to the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU

The exhibition “Between Tradition and Modernism” was opened on 2 May at the Art Gallery of the Bulgarian capital. The exhibition presents works by the most famous Bulgarian modernist artists and shows the connections with the European trends in art from the beginning of the 20th century. The project is dedicated to the Presidency of the Council of the EU and is supported by Aurubis Bulgaria and Sofia Municipality.

The event was opened by Todor Chobanov - Deputy Mayor of Sofia, Tim Kurth - Executive Director of Aurubis Bulgaria and Adelina Fileva - Director of the Sofia Art Gallery in the presence of the artistic community

“These paintings show that the art of Bulgaria was part of the European one hundred years ago. They are a sign that what connects us is more than what separates us,’’ said Tim Kurt in Bulgarian at the ceremony. “Our copper plant in Pirdop is 60 years old and is part of a company of over 150 years. Business and art build bridges that resist time. That's why we're together,” he said.

The exhibition presents works of prominent Bulgarian artists, after them Ivan Milev- representative of the Vienna secession of Gustav Klimt, Vladimir Dimitrov-Maistora and Nikolay Raynov. The selection of paintings is made by the funds of over twenty galleries and private collections. The exhibition will continue until 5 August.
