The low level of pollution in the Pirdop region where the plant is located is a result of the continuing additional development and modernization of the production process and the stable functioning of the gas cleaning system.

Throughout the last three years numerous technical and organizational measures have been taken to diminish the non-organized emissions and to keep all organized emission sources in compliance with the national regulations established to that end.

The specific emissions of SO2, dust and heavy metals have been reduced by 95 % from the year 2000 until now.

The data is from the ranking of the independent consulting company Brook Hunt about specific emissions of SO2, covering all installations for primary copper production in the world.
