The President of Bulgaria Rosen Plevneliev and the President of Germany Joachim Gauck visit Aurubis Bulgaria
On June 24, as part of his official state visit to Bulgaria, Germany's President Joachim Gauck and his wife has visited Aurubis' plant in Pirdop, accompanied by Bulgarian President Rossen Plevneliev.
Erwin Faust, CEO of Aurubis, and Tim Kurth, CEO of Aurubis Bulgaria, greeted them and showed them around the works.
After being welcomed with Bulgarian honors by little girls in traditional local costume, both presidents took their seats to follow an overview of the Aurubis Group and its activities in Bulgaria.
Both presidents were very interested in the subsequent guided plant tour, including a view of liquid copper in the anode casting wheel, as well as a discussion about environmental investments in the works. These investments benefit the region surrounding Pirdop and are unparalleled in Bulgaria. "The successes achieved in reducing sulfur dioxide emissions at Aurubis are almost tangible and visible for me when I look at the landscape that surrounds the plant here," an impressed Gauck commented. Fellow president Plevneliev has already completed his second Aurubis plant visit within a period of just seven months, having been a guest at the Hamburg works in November 2015.
As part of his visit, President Gauck at the previous day’s German-Bulgarian Business Forum in Sophia had already remarked on the close and warm friendship connecting both countries, and called for consistent democratic rule of law and the continued tackling of corruption to further strengthen both countries' relations.
