The metallurgical industry held its traditional holiday in the plant of Aurubis Bulgaria
November 5, 2015, Pirdop – More than 200 representatives of the metallurgical community, the central and local authorities, diplomats and media gathered to celebrate the professional holiday “The Metallurgical day” in Bulgaria. The host of the event this year was the largest copper producer for Southeastern Europe, Aurubis Bulgaria. The celebration of the Metallurgical day goes back to 1963, when the 5th of November was declared a professional day of the Bulgarian metallurgists.
The event was attended by the Vice-Minister of the Energy Zhecho Stankov, the adviser of economic affairs of the Ambassador of Germany Johannes Behrens, the Vice-President of the Bulgarian Industrial Association Kamen Kolev. Hosts of the event were the Chairman of the Executive Board of the Bulgarian Association of the Metallurgical Industry (BAMI) Anton Petrov and the Executive Director of Aurubis Bulgaria Tim Kurth.
„The Metallurgical industry has a sustainable place in the Bulgarian economy, is a leading sector in the industry and the export, with a 12% of the total produced industrial production in the country and 15% of the export of goods. A main priority for the companies from the branch is to improve the competitiveness of their production through investments in modern equipment and technologies, to increase the productivity and the quality of the production, the energy efficiency, the safe environment and good working conditions”, said Anton Petrov, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Bulgarian Association of the Metallurgical Industry, at the event.
At a symbolic ceremony was given the start of the new investment program of Aurubis Bulgaria “Spectrum 2018”, which amounts to 180 million euro.
„Today it is an honor for us to host this respected holiday and here to announce the successful completion of the investment program “Aurubis Bulgaria 2014”, which started in 2011 for more improving the environment and increasing the productivity. Today we announce its continuation with the new long-term investment program, that proves our sustainable presence in the country“, said Tim Kurth, Executive Director of Aurubis Bulgaria during the symbolic planting of a tree, giving start of the new project.
During the event, hand down to tradition, an awarding ceremony of students with excellent grades from the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy and the Technical University in Sofia was held. With a sign of an honored metallurgist were awarded veterans from the metallurgical branch, which this year are Prof. Diliana Chavdarova, Prof. Boris Drakaliyski, and Prof. Petar Bakardzhiev.
