The Minister for the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU Lilyana Pavlova, Aurubis Group CEO Jürgen Schahler and Aurubis Bulgaria Executive Director Tim Kurth signed a Memorandum for Cooperation. The leading German investor in Bulgaria has undertaken the commitment to support the implementation of the activities and priorities set out in the Presidency's program.
Aurubis was represented at the highest level at the Competitiveness Council informal meeting in Sofia, the conference "The base industries – a drive for growth" and participated at the European Eco-Innovation Forum. The company also supported the official launch of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU in Berlin held on January 16, 2018.
Jürgen Schachler, Aurubis Group CEO participated in the informal meeting of the Competitiveness Council on February 1 in Sofia. In the presence of EU28 ministers of economy and trade, Schachler held a keynote speech on the importance of the base industries for the EU and its industrial strategy on growth and competitiveness. Access to raw materials, energy change and environment protection were highlighted in his speech. Schachler asked for a stable and enabling industrial policy, with predictable costs and long-term regulatory frameworks in which industry can flourish and continue create jobs, growth and added value for Europe.
Aurubis Group Vice President Ulf Bauer opened the international conference "Innovation for competitiveness. The base industries – a drive for growth" on behalf of the European industry. "Aurubis Group is a scale model of Europe embodying different cultures from different sites, building bridges and tearing down borders driven by joint goals and shared values”, said Bauer in his keynote speech. “The base industry in 2030 needs a well-established strategy with strong stakeholder participation from the industry itself” he added in the presence of Bulgarian Minister of Economy Emil Karanikolov, EC DG Grow Director Competitiveness & European Semester Eric Mamer and representatives of European branch associations. Tim Kurth, Executive Director of Aurubis Bulgaria and Daniela Cholakova, Corporate Environmental Manager at Aurubis AG presented the trends in circular economy and Group’s key role in multi-metal recycling as part of the sustainable raw material supply.
Krum Neykov, Gas Cleaning Installation Manager at Aurubis Bulgaria, presented the 20-year record of environment protection achievements in Pirdop smelter during the 21st European Forum on Eco Innovation held in Bulgaria on February 5-6. “Today the Aurubis plant in Srednogorie region is one of the most environmentally friendly copper producers worldwide, because of the long-term investment program and the introduction of new technologies”, Neykov said at the forum opened by the Minister of Environment and Water Neno Dimov and EC Director General Environment Daniel Calleja Crespo.
